'RHOD' Was Cancelled Because of 'RHONY' and Tiffany Moon Said 'Let's Scrap the Whole Thing'

Was The Real Housewives of New York City race and ratings drama one of the reasons why The Real Housewives of Dallas was canceled? At least that’s what Tiffany Moon from RHOD believes.

She recently revealed that she told producers after season 5, they should “scrap” shooting season 6. While Moon doesn’t believe her recommendation to stop filming was the reason why the show was originally canceled, she thought it was fascinating that it was canceled shortly after her conversation with the producers.

Tiffany Moon draws a connection between ‘RHOD’ and ‘RHONY’

After a season focused on race, RHONY ratings took a significant hit. Executive producer Andy Cohen recently announced RHONY will split into two series – one with some original cast members and another with an entirely new cast.

Moon believes RHONY had an impact on the decision to cancel RHOD. “This happened right around the same time that New York’s ratings plummeted,” Moon said on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast.

“I mean, that’s just a fact,” she continued. “And the whole world made comments that we don’t want to hear about race on TV. That’s not me. That’s just what the people seem to say. And then we had a canceled New York reunion. And now like New York is trying to figure some things out. But the whole reunion being canceled and this whole thing that was going on and the ratings decreasing really was the time that they also said Dallas isn’t coming back.”

Did Tiffany Moon call for ‘RHOD’ to be cancelled?

“Dallas was always the lowest-rated franchise of however many [series],” she asserted. “Season 5 did not fare particularly better. I think, across the franchises, all the ratings sort of dropped a little bit when we might have started filming again was when delta [coroanvirus varient] started rearing its head in Texas.”

“Then the producers called me and were like, ‘Oh, we don’t know, we might have to push back filming, and you know, we’re still unsure,'” she recalled. “And I said to him, and I remembered this sort of jokingly, we were on a phone call. I said, ‘You know what? Let’s just scrap the whole thing.'”

“Let’s just like, cut the cord and maybe pick it up in a year or two or never,” she recounted. “But I feel like the universe is telling us no. And we’re like trying too hard to make it happen. The cast, the new people weren’t jelling.”

“Basically, in so many words I said that I refused to film with Kameron [Westcott],” she added. “And Covid in Texas particularly was starting to go on the upswing again, after the summer went ahead. I really feel like the universe is telling us no.”

“I said, so let’s just scrap the whole thing, like in a joking kind of way. Then a couple of weeks later, they’re like, we’re scrapping the whole thing.”

‘RHOD’ filming again for season 6

Despite RHOD‘s cancelation, Moon said the series will return. “We had shot test scenes with other potential cast members,” she shared. “That’s not a secret. I’m not outing anything. I’m not going to get in trouble. Although I don’t know who I would get in trouble with anyway, D’Andra (Simmons] and I both shot test scenes with potential new members that we were friends with and potentially would have been on season 6.”

She may have spilled that the series is poised to return, but wouldn’t confirm the cast. “I have no idea,” she teased. “I can neither confirm nor deny. It is to my knowledge that there was going to be a big cast shakeup and several firings, or I guess not being asked back for the next season.”
